We are clear about the natural ingredients and sustainable processes that go into making our products. We create these products ourselves in small batches so they are as fresh as possible, they are gentle on your skin and we can maintain the potency of the essential oils.
We want you to have the confidence that there are no risks associated with using our products. By producing in small batches, we use minimum levels of preservative and audit every single ingredient in our products for safety and purity. All our products are made to EU safety standards.
We manage our business and ourselves in a responsible way. We ask our suppliers those awkward questions about ingredients and packaging so that we can monitor all the systems and processes used to make the products. We recycle and reuse whenever we can. We are cruelty-free and buy our ingredients from ethical suppliers.
We use high-quality natural ingredients, and we know our products reflect the latest understanding in the relationship between cosmetics, our health, our well being, the environment and the future of our planet.
Essential oils, used properly, have many uses. When we eat whole foods, our bodies know what is needed in order to nourish and regenerate, and are able to turn these natural ingredients into what is needed. It's exactly the same with what we put on our skin. One type of oil could be suitable for lots of different skin complaints or body issues, as well as being great for, say, relieving stress or sleeping better. These ingredients are called ADAPTOGENS – being naturally compatible with our tissues, the body can take just what it needs from an essential oil.
Essential oils can be administered through the skin, through the mouth or through smell, and many oils can affect more than one system in the body. For example, peppermint oil is widely used as an inhalant to open the airways and help us to breathe. Taken as a supplement it can quiet an upset digestive tract. Applied through massage it is very useful in relieving muscle spasms, giving a feeling of icy-hot to the tissues. People often use it on the temples to relieve a headache.
Experiments have shown that essential oils have a huge part to play in protecting, supporting and healing the human body and mind. They have also shown that only good quality, real essential oils will work – cheap oils or synthetic copies will not. By being open and clear about our ingredients, production methods and formulation, we are able to give customers complete confidence that what they are using is not only safe, it can also benefit them in other ways too.
...has been developed over the last six years by a mother and daughter who wanted to approach skincare from a totally different angle.Hannah Lovegrove has developed her understanding of the skin, mind and body care from her work in holistic beauty therapy, aromatherapy and Iyengar yoga over the past 40 years.Make-up guru Hayley de Beers has worked with hundreds of women, and men, in all kinds of circumstances, listening to the issues they had with their skin and their make up, giving advice and building up their confidence.They recognise that more people need to see their skin issues and their self-esteem as part and parcel of their lifestyle. From Hayley’s point of view, diet, sleep, stress and exercise can have a huge effect on a person’s skin and the speed at which it regenerates itself. Hannah says that chronic stress is a serious condition that is often overlooked. Both agree that daily facial skin care regime and regular Facial Therapy treatment can tackle the effects of stress on the mind and body, and improve our health and well-being.Together they have created a skincare brand that harnesses the many therapeutic uses of essential oils, not just for their topical benefits on the skin, but also for their effect on the mind and the body.
Hannah trained at Chichester College in classical Health & Beauty Therapy in the 1970s. Natural cosmetics and the holistic uses of essential oils have always been her principle interests in this field. She is a qualified Aromatherapist , Reiki Practitioner, and a highly experienced Iyengar Yoga Teacher.In the Lovegrove Essentials Facial Therapy training programme, Hannah encourages Therapists to develop a true and thorough understanding of theory and practice, to develop a level of confidence in their own abilities, which allows them to relax enough to deliver top-class treatments.
Hayley trained at the Delamar Academy at Ealing Studios and has worked as a Make-up Artist and Hair Stylist in the film, music video and photography industry since 2008. She worked for several years as Head Make-Up Artist in Urban Retreat @ Harrods and has extensive experience in high-end retail and luxury brands.Hayley now works as a freelance Make-Up Artist and has been the on-call artist of choice for many of the leading 5-star hotels and spas in London. Hayley co-created the full range of Lovegrove Essentials products and, in her role as Creative Director, oversees the brand development and marketing.

… being green. For some larger companies, it can be like trying to change the direction of a container ship on the ocean - the Captain has to allow for a huge turning circle, so it takes time and planning.
At Lovegrove Essentials we are always looking for ways to improve our manufacturing processes, the ingredients we choose for our products, our packaging materials and delivery methods. Our goal is to go beyond taking out "bad" ingredients, minimising waste, and recycling more. We want to choose better options and improve our products and processes, based on information about their impact on the environment and human health.
While some ingredients and processes are not restricted by government regulations, such as animal products or plastic packaging, we apply our own standards to them and aim to limit or discontinue their use. This helps us go beyond regulatory requirements to continually make our products better.
However, we also have to be mindful of the safety of our products, our customers and their clients, and we have to weigh up competing priorities to come to an appropriate decision.
How does 'being green' relate to Luxury, Holistic Skin Care? First and foremost, we want our customers to know that all our processes support our passionate belief in a sustainable future for this lovely planet.
So, the choices we make are not always the cheapest - we believe in quality over quantity, and the ingredients we chose can be more expensive. We believe that our passion, commitment and intent will come through in the efficacy of our products.
We also believe that if you wouldn't eat it, why put it on your skin? Given the right ingredients and a compassionate touch, the body will heal itself.
Our printer paper is recycledOur marketing folders are made from FSC-accredited card.Our business cards are made from re-cycled cotton.We share our offices to minimise our use of power and heat.We encourage staff to take their breaks, to cook and eat a proper lunch, and to work flexibly in order to support their family commitments.
All these are important factors in reducing stress and supporting our health and well being.
When it comes to protecting the active ingredients of our products in bottles and jars, we look at the best/least worst option. We choose amber glass packaging for most of our products to protect the essential oils from light degradation. The black urea caps are the 'least worst' option in terms of choices currently available, and ours have a PVDC liner to prevent leakage, whilst helping preserve the active ingredients within. The lid liner is BPA-free.
Where we have had to choose plastic for safety reasons, such as the Massage Balms, we're using PET jars, which are easily recycled and can be re-used. And we are going further: we are changing to bio-polymer bottles made from sugar cane waste for our beloved Toning Mist.
Which do you think is best: re-using some of the mountains of bubble wrap we receive from our suppliers or sending it for recycling? We prefer to keep packaging materials in circulation for as long as possible, until they can be safely disposed in a pyrolysis system and used to produce 'clean' energy. So although you will find the products in our parcels wrapped in bubble wrap, it has been recycled several times and we hope you'll re-use it too. And if your products arrive in a second-hand jiffy bag, please open it carefully and re-use that too.
So while you enjoy our beautifully designed packaging, the quality of the products, the delightful aromas and their life-enhancing effects, we make it our business to ensure that we're doing the least possible harm, producing luxury, holistic natural products in a truly sustainable way.
